Vitamin Injections in East Kilbride

Vitamin injections are a convenient way of supplementing certain vitamins — most commonly vitamin B12 — in patients who have a clinical need or who have chosen to include them as part of their health routine.

At Alchemy Clinic in East Kilbride, vitamin injections are administered by qualified clinicians following a proper medical consultation. We do not treat on a walk-in basis and we do not make wellness claims we cannot back up.

Consultations start from £30.

A medically-led approach

Vitamin injections are widely advertised — sometimes in ways that make them sound like a cure for tiredness, low energy, or general under-the-weather feelings. The reality is more measured. Vitamin B12 injections have a clear and well-established role in the treatment of B12 deficiency, and in supporting patients who cannot absorb B12 effectively through diet or oral supplementation. Outside of deficiency, the evidence for vitamin injections producing a meaningful difference in healthy adults is limited.

We will always have an honest conversation about this at your consultation. If you would benefit from an injection, we will tell you. If you would benefit more from a blood test, a GP conversation, or a different approach, we will tell you that too.

Injections we offer

Vitamin B12 (hydroxocobalamin / cyanocobalamin)

Our most commonly requested injection. B12 is involved in red blood cell production, nervous system function, and energy metabolism. Clinically, B12 injections are used to treat and manage B12 deficiency — a condition that can cause tiredness, low mood, neurological symptoms, and in severe cases anaemia.

Patients who may benefit from B12 injection include:

  • Those with diagnosed B12 deficiency or pernicious anaemia.

  • Those following a strict vegan diet who have found oral supplementation insufficient.

  • Those with certain gastrointestinal conditions that affect absorption.

  • Those who have previously responded well to B12 injections and prefer to continue them privately.

We will confirm suitability at consultation, and may recommend a blood test before starting injections in patients who have not previously been tested.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D deficiency is particularly common in Scotland given our limited sunlight for much of the year. Most patients respond well to oral supplementation, and this is our usual first recommendation. Where oral supplementation has been ineffective, or where there is a specific clinical reason, we can discuss injectable vitamin D as an option at consultation.

Other vitamins and combinations

A range of other vitamin and combination injections are marketed in the aesthetic and wellness sector. We take a cautious view. Any product we offer is supported by appropriate clinical evidence, administered under prescriber oversight, and recommended only where there is a genuine clinical rationale. If you are interested in a specific product or brand, please raise it at consultation and we will have a straightforward conversation about the evidence and whether it is appropriate for you.

Your consultation

Every patient receiving an injection at Alchemy begins with a consultation, which costs £30. This matters because injectable vitamins are not suitable for everyone, and because we need to check a short medical history before treatment.

At your consultation, your clinician will:

  1. Review your medical history, current medications, and any recent blood tests.

  2. Discuss why you are interested in vitamin injections and what you are hoping for.

  3. Advise on whether an injection is likely to help, or whether a different approach (including referral back to your GP) would be more appropriate.

  4. Recommend any blood tests that would be sensible before starting injections.

  5. Explain the injection, the frequency, the aftercare, and any side effects to watch for.

Where indicated, we can usually administer the injection at the same appointment.

Blood testing

We offer a range of private blood tests on-site, which can be helpful both in establishing whether an injection is indicated and in monitoring progress over time. Where a patient is asking about vitamin injections without any recent testing, a blood test is often a sensible starting point — and occasionally it produces a clearer answer than an injection would have.

More information is available on our private blood testing page.

What to expect

A vitamin injection appointment is brief — usually no more than 15 minutes once the consultation is complete. The injection itself is typically administered into the muscle of the upper arm or buttock, using a fine needle.

Most patients experience nothing more than brief soreness at the injection site. Side effects are uncommon; occasional reactions include mild bruising, itching, or a warm sensation shortly after injection. Serious allergic reactions are rare, and your clinician will discuss the full list of possible side effects at consultation.

Injection frequency depends on the product and your individual clinical picture. B12 injections are commonly given every 8 to 12 weeks for maintenance, though a more intensive schedule is sometimes used initially.

When vitamin injections are not appropriate

We will not recommend or provide vitamin injections:

  • Where there is no clinical rationale and oral supplementation would be equally effective.

  • Where the underlying issue would be better investigated by your GP.

  • In patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless specifically indicated under GP supervision.

  • Where there is a known allergy or contraindication to the product.

This is part of what medically-led practice means. If an injection is not right for you, we will say so.

Serving East Kilbride and the wider area

Alchemy Clinic is based in East Kilbride and regularly sees patients travelling from Hamilton, Rutherglen, Cambuslang, Newton Mearns, Giffnock, and across Glasgow South. Our clinician-led, consultation-first model is particularly suitable for patients who want vitamin injections handled properly rather than as an add-on to a beauty treatment.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a blood test before a vitamin injection?

Not always, but often yes — particularly if you have not been tested recently and are not already established on a regimen. A short conversation at consultation will confirm what makes sense for you.

Will a B12 injection give me more energy?

If you are genuinely B12 deficient, treating that deficiency can improve tiredness that is caused by it. If you are not deficient, the evidence that B12 injections improve energy in otherwise healthy adults is limited. We will be honest about this at consultation.

How often will I need injections?

It depends on the product and your individual situation. Maintenance B12 injections are commonly given every 8 to 12 weeks. Your plan will be confirmed at consultation.

Can I have vitamin injections while pregnant or breastfeeding?

Generally not, unless specifically recommended by your GP or obstetric team. We would suggest revisiting this after pregnancy and breastfeeding have ended.

Is this available on the NHS?

B12 injections are available on the NHS for patients with diagnosed deficiency, and this is usually the appropriate route. Patients come to us privately most often because they want continuity, flexible timing, or have fallen between services.

Do you offer IV vitamin drips?

We take a conservative view on IV vitamin infusions and currently focus on injectable vitamins where there is a clearer clinical rationale. If you are considering IV therapy, we are happy to have an honest conversation about the evidence at consultation.

Book your consultation

If you are considering vitamin injections and would like a proper medical consultation rather than an off-the-shelf package, we would be glad to see you. Consultations start from £30 and take place at our East Kilbride clinic.
